Learning in a high-tech environment is a priority at Elkanah House and the constant upgrading of our IT centres ensures this is possible. Information technology skills are implemented as a core component in the curriculum in order to prepare our pupils to be computer literate school leavers.
Through our curriculum our pupils are capable of using office applications such as Word processing, spreadsheets, creating presentations, publications and web design and databases. In addition, pupils at the High School have access to Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Flash and various other design tools when using the IT Centre.
At the Junior Primary, weekly computer classes are a highlight for the pupils where they are exposed to typing tutors, word processing and grade 2’s and 3’s learn how to produce a slide show and various other applications are used to reinforce numeracy, phonics and other areas of academics.
At the Senior Primary, there is an integrated approach whereby dedicated teachers give lessons from different learning areas using the technology available to them in the ICT Centre, with lessons always being taught within context. Programmes have been carefully worked out and there is a framework of skills in place that has been set out for each grade to cover, for each programme. .
At the High School, we have implemented Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS), which is the qualification required by academia and business, recognised globally as the premier credential chosen by individuals seeking to validate their knowledge, skills and abilities relating to the Microsoft Office systems.
MOS validates skills in the 2010 Microsoft Office system, covering Microsoft Office Word 2010, Excel 2010, PowerPoint 2010, Access 2010 or Outlook 2010.
Information technology is offered as a subject to Grade 10 – Grade 12 pupils. Information Technology focuses on activities that deal with the solution of problems through logical thinking, information management and communication. It also focuses on the development of computer applications using current development tools. The subject develops awareness and an understanding of the social, economic, and other implications of using computers.
