Masquerading for Valentine's Day

To make the day more special, the High School held a Valentine's Masquerade at the High School Campus. The function as well as the marketing of the event was done by the pupils themselves, and they did a great job creating an event to be remembered.

Hectic Exposure

We were recently asked to be televised for our social outreach involvement as well as our contribution to environmental sustainability through recycling. Hectic Nine-9, SABC 2’s flagship youth show, boasting in excess of 2 million viewers a day, recently approached us to be a guest at their very first hour programme to be broadcast on SABC 2 during the last two weeks of February. On 15 February the crew from Okuhle Media spent most of the day interacting with pupils, shooting action on the campus and interviewing representatives in the different categories of our Social Outreach Programme. We will keep all updated of when this will be broadcast.

Forever Friends

The Prep Schools decided to focus on friendship this Valentine's Day. All dressed in red or pink, and shared and cared with their friends and favourite persons, to show them how much they mean. Marshmallows were freely available and hugs were in great supply.

It's All About Birds

The Grade 3 theme for the month is birds. They are learning all about what they do, eat, how they build nests, and all the different kinds of birds there are. They have also made some great artworks of birds, and as part of their theme, they visited the Intaka Bird Island at Century City recently.

Circles in the Forest

Grade 1 pupils recently visited Kirstenbosch for a very informative, yet enjoyable outing. They learned about all kinds of living creatures, walked among the streams, climbed on rocks and had a lovely picnic on the lawn. It is important that our pupils learn about the importance of the environment as well as sustaining it, and with outings such as this we would like to give them an introduction to looking after our planet.

A Comedy of Errors

A few of our Encore club members recently embarked on an adventure to the Maynardville Theatre to watch 'A Comedy of Errors presented by a local theatre group. They had a superb evening with a picnic under the shady pines and tall oak trees , then were transported into another world to the beautiful outdoor theatre at Maynardville. The show was hilarious and very enjoyable.

Cross Country Runners off to a Good Start

The Grade 7 Cross Country teams took part in The Lion of Africa 5km Fun Run on Saturday 4 February. They all had such spirit and ran as a team. All the joggers completed the race in the allocated time and received a medal for their efforts. This is the first long distance race for the year and they represented Elkanah House with pride.

Outings Well Underway

Prep Schools are having much fun on different outings this term, and the first outings for the year have already taken place. The Grade 3's went to Groot Constantia for a well enjoyed morning, a well organised trip indeed.

A Big Elkanah Welcome

We hosted our first breakfast function for the new class reps for 2012. We would like to extend a warm welcome to our new class reps. It is a pleasure to have parents who are willing to go the extra mile.
